See the approachBeyond ordinary tutoring
Private-school families often need a partner who can look beneath the grades, understand the complete learner, and strengthen the foundational skills that rigorous curricula can quietly expose.
Davisha brings educational, cognitive, and speech-and-language insight together—so support is both academically precise and deeply responsive to the child in front of her.
Instruction is shaped around your child's learning profile, classroom demands, and meaningful goals.
Clear communication helps families understand what is being taught, why it matters, and where growth is happening.
With family permission, support can complement classroom expectations and coordinate with a student's school team.
Meet your specialist
I'm Davisha Alwani, an educational specialist with more than 20 years of experience supporting neurodivergent learners and a professional foundation in speech, language, and cognitive development.
My approach draws on training across four specialized methodologies: Orton-Gillingham (structured literacy), Lindamood-Bell Visualizing & Verbalizing® (comprehension and language processing), Handwriting Without Tears (multisensory writing), and cognitive skills training. I hold a B.A. in Speech and Hearing Science from The George Washington University and have worked clinically as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant, giving me a strong foundation in how language, reading, and cognition intersect.
I believe every learner is capable of progress when given the right tools, the right pace, and an adult who sees possibility before limitation. Skills matter—but confidence, agency, and the ability to self-advocate matter just as much.
The learning experience
The strongest progress happens when evidence-based instruction and emotional safety work together. Each step is designed to create clarity for the learner and the family.
We begin with your concerns, your child's history, school feedback, and what your child already does well.
Targeted activities reveal skill patterns and help establish a thoughtful starting point for instruction.
Lessons are structured, sequential, cumulative, and multisensory—while remaining engaging and responsive.
Progress is observed over time, instruction is adjusted, and parents remain informed about meaningful next steps.
What we strengthen
Phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension are taught as connected parts of skilled reading.
Spelling, handwriting, sentence development, and written expression are supported with explicit tools and practice.
Targeted practice supports attention, working memory, processing speed, reasoning, and cognitive flexibility.
Students learn to notice growth, use tools independently, and develop a more accurate story about their own potential.
Parent perspective
“Knowledgeable, accessible and professional.”
“Extremely kind and patient.”
“Reading skills and confidence continue to grow.”
A high-touch partnership
Every minute is shaped around your child—not a generic worksheet, preset pace, or one-size-fits-all curriculum.
Sessions build logically from prior learning, with deliberate review and practice to create durable skills.
Families receive useful context about lesson focus, emerging progress, and practical ways to support learning.
Online, in-person, or hybrid support may be recommended based on location, availability, and the learner's needs.
Frequently asked
Still unsure whether the fit is right? A consultation is the easiest place to begin.
Davisha works with school-age children and adolescents, including learners with dyslexia, dysgraphia, ADHD, and expressive or receptive language differences. Support is always matched to the individual student.
Both formats may be available. Online sessions use screen-sharing and interactive materials; in-person or hybrid support depends on location, scheduling, and student needs.
Homework may reveal where a learner is struggling, but the primary goal is to strengthen underlying reading, language, writing, and cognitive skills so schoolwork becomes more manageable over time.
When appropriate and authorized by the family, instruction can be aligned with school priorities and communication can include relevant members of the student's educational team.
No. Davisha's degree in Speech and Hearing Science, clinical observation, and SLPA experience inform her understanding of language and literacy, but these services are educational tutoring and intervention—not clinical therapy or a medical diagnosis.
You will discuss your child's learning history, current concerns, strengths, school context, and goals. Davisha can then recommend an appropriate next step based on fit and availability.
The next right step
Begin with a private conversation about your child's learning experience, the concerns you are seeing, and the kind of support that would make the greatest difference.
